David Alan Mobley of Smyrna, Georgia departed this life January 17 in Atlanta. All that knew him and especially his wonderful family will sorely miss him. David was born at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida to Charles Howard and Denise Sisney Mobley in 1969. David received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University, and earned his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from The University of Alabama. He was a member of both the Florida and Georgia Bar Associations and was a partner at Smith, Gambrel & Russell here in Atlanta for several years.
David was active in charitable organizations, including the High Museum of Art, serving on the Planning Committee and as Co-Chair for their Annual Wine Auction. He was also a Board Member and served as President of the St. Thomas More Society. In 2008, he received the Archbishop Francis Donoghue Award for exemplary service to the St. Thomas More Society. Mr. Mobley has also served as an Executive Member of the Georgia Appleseed Young Professionals Council.
David was most dedicated to his family. His son Harrison was his special little boy who shared a common love of model trains, hot wheel collections and especially Legos. David spent hours playing with Harrison sharing his experiences and watching him grow up. His daughter Hannah was the apple of his eye. David enjoyed playing and singing, “Let it Go” with his beautiful little girl who loved to dress-up as princesses. He coached Hannah in soccer and played a big role in every aspect of her life. Harrison and Hannah share their father’s laugh, his intelligence, and his big heart.
His wife Kathy was so special in his life and the foundation of his marriage. David has been married to Kathy since 2005. David cherished Kathy for all her many great qualities, but most of all, for being a strong and wonderful mother to Harrison and Hannah.
David’s devotion to Kathy, love for his children, and kindness to all of his family will be missed every day.
David is survived by his wife, Barbara Kathleen Glisson Mobley (Kathy) and children Harrison Charles, age six and Hannah Kathleen, age five; his mother Denise Mobley of Orlando and father Charles (Skip) Mobley and wife Joanne of Orlando: sister-in-law Laura Glisson Young and brother-in-law Scott, nieces Madeline and Annabel of Acworth; mother-in-law Susan Longino Noland and husband Carter of Smyrna; father-in-law John and wife Karen Glisson of Niceville, Fl.
A service to honor the life of David will occur on Wednesday, January 21st at 2 o’clock at Northside United Methodist Church. A family graveside service will immediately follow the funeral at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions in David’s honor go to Mt. Bethel Christian Academy in Marietta, Georgia.
