Charlotte Galbraith Ramage (affectionately known as Muddley), a long time resident of Atlanta, died Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Winthrop Health and Rehabilitation in Rome, Georgia. Born February 10, 1918, she was the daughter of Virginia and Charles Audley Galbraith. Charlotte was a graduate of North Avenue Presbyterian School (NAPS, the predecessor to The Westminster Schools,) where she was a member of SUNEV and the Coterie Club. She excelled in swimming and diving, and in 1936, Charlotte won both the Southeastern and the Southern Diving Championships. She attended Oglethorpe University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Fraternity. In 1938 and 1939, Charlotte studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, continuing her swimming and diving at the Lake Shore Athletic Club. An Atlanta newspaper column quipped, “One day when Charlotte was practicing, she made one of her excellent dives and was spotted by Bobby Riggs, tennis champ. When he saw her performance, he began right away hunting for someone to introduce him to this star diver. He asked her to accompany him to a tennis banquet, and they became good friends from then on.” When she finished her studies in Chicago, she returned to Atlanta and worked at Rich’s as a graphic artist in the advertising department. She married James Blakely Ramage in 1942, and they remained married until his death in 1998. They had three children: Nancy Callahan, James B. Ramage, Jr. (Jimmy), and Lynn Dennison (David). Charlotte and Jim were members of the Capital City Club and the Phoenix Society. She was an avid golfer and played well into her 90’s. Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, Jim, her son, Jimmy, aand her first cousin, Nancy Davis Reagan. Survivors include her children, Nancy Callahan of Franklin, North Carolina and Lynn Dennison (David) of Cartersville, Georgia; her grandchildren Sean Callahan (Robin) of Franklin, North Carolina, Erin Callahan Pieroni of Atlanta, Brian Dennison (Mary Jane) of Savannah, Daniel Dennison of New Castle, Colorado, and Andrew Dennison (Olivia) of Atlanta. Great-grandchildren include Bailey and Liam Callahan of Franklin, North Carolina, Charlotte, David, Robert, and Carol Dennison of Savannah, and Lucy, Cullen, and Eva Dennison of Atlanta. Also surviving is her first cousin, Dick Davis (Patti) of Villanova, Pennsylvania. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, June 26 at 3 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road, Atlanta, Georgia. A reception will follow the service.
