Carol Jean Fetters died May 21, 2011 as she lived, with courage and fortitude, while confronting an extended bout with ovarian cancer. Services will be held at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 2pm. While attending undergraduate school at Shepherd College in West Virginia, Carol started her family and started a cooperative nursery school at the local Episcopal church. This was prior to public preschools and mothers were to stay home with children. However, because of this experience, she was then appointed as the first principal of a free public kindergarten in the state of West Virginia; although this schooling out of home was still frowned upon at that time. After 17 years of marriage, David and Carol Fetters moved back to their home state of New York. Carol received a Master's degree from CW Post in Long Island and went on to become a home office manager at the Equitable Life Assurance Society in NYC. Then, she was transferred down to the Atlanta office. After developing a taste for antiques in British sports cars, they travelled the area extensively. They also travelled the globe visiting Europe, Africa, and Asia. In her retired life, she loved duplicate bridge, flower arranging with the Sandy Springs Garden Club, was a member of AAUW and was active in her many book clubs. Carol's most beloved activity was touring local school children through the Michael C. Carlos Museum located on the Emory Campus. This was her avocation for over 14 years, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her name. Carol is survived by her loving husband David, and children Lynne and Tom Maginnis, Glenn and Amy Fetters and her grandchildren, Tom D., Keely and Connor Maginnis, Robert and David Fetters. All of whom will greatly miss her love, her keen sense of humor, and her skills at board games; most especially Chinese checkers.
