At the early age of 41, Carmen Stan passed away the morning of Friday, April 29th, 2022.
Carmen was born December 25th 1980 to Marilena and Petru in Stanin Alba Iulia, Romania.
Her early years were filled with numerous pursuits including competitive swimming, the Orthodox Church Choir, the Monastic Fraternity Taize, and girl scouts. These groups afforded her opportunities to travel throughout Romania and Europe, exposing her to the rich history and architecture of the continent. These early interests soon formed into her dream to one day become an architect, which was affirmed upon her admission to the college of architecture near the top of her class. Carmen graduated near the top of her class in 2005.
Carmen met her other forever half Toni in 1999, and after a brief period became inseparable. In September of 2005, she followed Toni to Atlanta, where they started settling in and placing roots.
Carmen’s career started in earnest in October of 2005 with Robert M. Cain, Architect, later becoming a registered architect in the state of Georgia in 2012. Carmen’s drive and talent led her to numerous accolades and awards, as well as membership and eventual leadership in a number of committees in her local community of Midtown, Atlanta. The passion Carmen held for sustainability in architecture and urban communities was a common thread throughout her professional career.
Carmen and Toni married in November of 2012 on the banks of the Chattahoochee river in Atlanta. On May 29th 2015 the biggest pride, joy, blessing and infinite spring of happiness came into this world for her: Eva Maria Patruta Stan. Carmen always considered Eva and her bringing into this word as her biggest achievement.
Another proud moment in Carmen’s life occurred in August of 2019: Carmen became a Naturalized United State Citizen ready and eager to vote to defend the American Constitution.
Carmen was actively involved in the Saint Mary Romanian Orthodox Church community of Dacula GA. Carmen volunteered her time and put to good use her passion for community by designing the church’s new Fellowship Hall and Sunday School building. She got to see the project almost finished - today the project is about 90% complete.
Carmen was loved by everyone she ever met. Because of her personality and passion for life people gravitated towards her. Carmen loved life and life loved Carmen back: it gave her thousands of happy moments among friends and family. For those fortunate enough to have met her and be in her presence, Carmen will always be a part of their memories.
Towards the end of her days, Carmen said that if given the chance to change something in her past, she would not change anything. She only wished she could stay to watch Eva grow into a woman with a life as incredible as the one she was blessed with.
A visitation for Carmen will be held Monday, May 2, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road Ne, Atlanta, GA 30319, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hmpattersonOglethorpe.com for the family.
