A native of Riverside, IL, Dr. McKillip was the son of the late William Glenn McKillip and Ruth Bauld McKillip. He was a retired mathematics education professor at the University of Georgia, and successful author of children’s math books.
Bill attended Knox College and the University of Illinois, and after college taught high school math for several years. He won a National Science Foundation scholarship to the University of California (San Diego) where he earned a Masters’ Degree, and won a second NSF scholarship to the University of Virginia where he earned a doctorate in Mathematics Education. In 1965, Bill joined the faculty of UGA, and retired in 1999. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, archeology, and travel.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Stybr McKillip of Athens, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage; sons, David William McKillip and wife, Peggy of Bowling Green, KY, Daniel Miles McKillip and wife, Patti McKellar of Dearborn Heights, MI, and Douglas Carl McKillip and wife, Mary of Athens; daughters, Victoria McKillip Christian and husband, Charles of Phoenix, AZ and Jennifer McKillip Little and husband, David of Athens; sister, Glenna McKillip Linder of Riverside, IL. Bill was “Papa” to his 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Friendship Presbyterian Church on US 441.
