A native of Hopewell, New Jersey, Mr. Rooks was the son of the late Lester and Ruth Briggs Rooks Lay and was preceded in death by sons, Roger Rooks and Richard Patterson Jr and brother, Gordon Rooks. He graduated from Princeton High School in Princeton, NJ and served in the United States Air Force. While living in Florida, Mr. Rooks owned his own home improvement business and retired to Georgia in 2006. He was a member of the Athens Elks Lodge No. 790 of which he was a trustee. Mr. Rooks loved music and had his own band, The Versatyles. He also loved cooking and barbequing for family and friends.
Survivors include wife, Marlene Workman Rooks of Winterville; daughters, Melody Weidner of Clearwater, FL and Terri Thomason and husband, Mark of Boynton Beach, FL; sons, Curtis Rooks and wife, Becky of Clearwater, FL, David Rooks and partner, Doug Fraser of Lake Mary, FL, Ronald Rooks Jr of Fort Walton Beach, FL, and Thomas Patterson and wife, Donna of Riverview, FL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Thomas Workman and wife, Maureen of Boca Rotan, FL and Donald Workman and wife, Sandy of McLain, VA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 4PM Sunday, March 29th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 3-4PM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Elks Aidmore Children’s Center, 2394 Morrison Rd SW, Conyers, GA 30094.
