He was predeceased by his loving wife Susan. Mr. Stokes went by many names: Stokes to colleagues, Bob to friends, Loran to family, Pete, Sweetheart, Dad and Grandpa. Though his name varied, his servant heart never wavered. He was loving and an undeniably hard-working provider.
Just like his names, his careers were many. For a brief time, he was a police officer for the City of Miami police department. It was a hard job he was proud to perform, and most importantly, where he met his wife of 43 years whom he adored. His primary career was with Eastern Airlines which provided for his family.
Loran’s favorite accomplishment was the “house that Bob built” in Miami, Florida. He built the family home with the help of friends and family while working a full-time job – a tribute to his work ethic.
Loran loved anything with an engine especially cars, boats, and motorcycles. He also loved the beach, singing and dancing. In his later years, he discovered a passion for painting. Loran was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He was tough on the outside and a softie on the inside. He was loving and loved. He was strong and determined and also tender and kind. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Loran is survived by his children, Kelley Cox of Tucson, AZ, Robert Stokes (Angela) of Gainesville, GA, and Laurel Alberty (Stephen) of Watkinsville, GA; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Westin, Savannah, Johnny, and Walker; and great-grandson, Stefon also survive.
Services will be for immediate family only.
