Oscar Douglas "Doug" Towns

Born in Athens, Mr. Towns was the son of the late Roy Towns and Louise Porterfield Towns. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and retired as a Lieutenant with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department. He loved riding his Harley and traveling. Mr. Towns spent winters in Naples, FL for several years until becoming disabled.

Survivors include wife, Joan Edwards Towns of Athens; children, Eva Pryor (Joe) of Pendergrass, Jimmy Towns (Missy) of Lula, Mark Towns of Athens, and Tami Harsh (Scott) of Frisco, NC; stepchildren, Rick Dover (Kathy) of Watkinsville, Randy Dover (Ginger) of Gainesville and Robin Dover Williamson of Watkinsville; brothers, Roy Towns (Marilyn) of Charlotte, NC and Ron Towns (Barbara) of Ellijay; sister, Rebecca Wheeler of Watkinsville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, at 2:00 p.m., at the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
