Born in Alcoa, Blount County, TN, Nancy was the daughter of the late Johnson “Jack” French and Mary Katherine “Kate” Gregg French. She, and her five siblings, grew up on a beautiful farm in East Tennessee where she was sure to have gained her love of learning and community.
Nancy was passionate about education and mentorship and was an educator at Hilsman Middle School in Athens for nearly 20 years. Nancy’s love of mentorship continued on as she joined P.E.O. International, a philanthropic education organization that celebrates the advancement of women by educating and motivating them. She served on the state board for seven years and was the Georgia State Chapter President in 2001. Her P.E.O. family was very dear to her.
Nancy was married to her best supporter and cheerleader, the late Richard Caldwell Morgan, for 59 years. Her children, Donna Morgan (Tom Esquibel) of Athens and Bobby Morgan of Denver, CO, were their greatest accomplishments.
Nancy is also survived by her brothers, Jack French (Charlotte), Mike French, Phil French (Voretta); and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Hill (Norman) and Barbara Lou Cunningham (Michael).
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, February 4, at 1:00 p.m., at Athens First United Methodist Church, Nancy’s church home for many years. A reception will be held in Hancock Hall following the service.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Nancy’s honor to Athens First United Methodist Church, 327 N. Lumpkin St., Athens, GA 30601, or Nancy F. Morgan Scholarship Fund, P.E.O. Executive Office, Treasurer, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312.
