She was born in Carroll County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late William Pate and Viola Clark Pate. Mary Jean spent most of her life in Athens and retired from Sears after working 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rogal Allen "Rod" Sims; two brothers: James Marvin Pate and Jack Pate; and a sister, Juanita Roberts.
Survivors include her son, Rockey Sims; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at the Bethabara Baptist Church Cemetery, 4651 Monroe Highway, Statham (Oconee County), with Pastor Rob Bray officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2023, at Bernstein Funeral Home.
