Born in Oconee County on November 12, 1948, Mary Ann was a daughter of the late Perry T. and Mary Lou Hayes. She worked with the Oconee County School System and retired from the Clarke County School System and the Oconee County Tag Office. Mary Ann was a lifelong member of Antioch Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Perry Hayes; sister-in-law, Bobbie Almand; and granddaughter, Agatha Elder.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, William Doyle Elder; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Elder-Johnson and Chuck Johnson and Mendy and Tim Meyer; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jennifer Elder; brother, David Hayes; brother and sister-in-law, John and Debra Hayes; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Ricky Ray; sister-in-law, Lisa Hayes; brother-in-law, Scott Almand; grandchildren, Jacqueline Henderson (Jonathan), Andrew Elder, Bryce Watson, Hannah Elder (fiancé Jonathan Kizziah), Sarah Meyer, Sophie Meyer, Cody Elder and Wyatt Elder.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to Mary Ann’s caregivers, Sabrina Harris and Kim Ott.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 17, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home.
