Born in Athens, Kathy was the daughter of the late Ralph Mattox Snow, Sr. and Louise Hencely Snow.
Kathy never met a stranger, and she left everyone she met richer in spirit than she found them. Always enjoying the company of others, she was the life of every party she attended. She will be remembered for her infectious enthusiasm, her positive outlook during even the most difficult times, her keen wit, and her abiding faith in Jesus Christ.
A gifted and creative storyteller, Kathy could capture the attention and the imagination of any audience—a skill that she undoubtedly honed through a lifetime of voracious reading. She regularly brought family and friends to tears of laughter with her impersonations and humor. In 2012, Kathy published one of her favorite stories, drawn from childhood memories of her family’s horse farm, as a children’s book: "Shorty Finds a Job." The book encouraged countless young people to find their own jobs and to pursue their own passions in life, advancing a mission close to Kathy’s heart.
After graduating from Athens High School, Kathy attended Mercer University, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University, obtaining her B.A. in English Literature. She began her professional career as an editor for publishing company Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in Atlanta, Georgia. Later, Kathy founded Branch Options Consultants, Inc., a multi-national management consulting firm that focused on organizational theory and behavior training. A trailblazer in her own right and an advocate for other women business owners, Kathy was the keynote speaker for the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce’s Prism Conference for Women in Business.
Kathy was also generous with her time, talents, and treasure. She volunteered her time as a board member of both the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation (now Historic Athens) and the American Red Cross of Northeast Georgia. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Athens, Georgia and a past president of the Junior League of Wilmington, Delaware. Kathy also was active in every church she attended—most recently, participating as a leader and member of the Karen Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Athens, the same church in which she was raised as a girl.
Kathy has been reunited in the Kingdom of Heaven with those who passed away before her, including her parents, her sister, Harriett Snow Dwyer, and her brother, Ralph Mattox “Buddy” Snow, Jr. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Roy Segars, Jr. of Athens; son, Thomas Hamilton Segars (Nina) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Heidi Antonia Segars and Keira Naomi Segars, both of Raleigh; brother-in-law, David William “Dave” Dwyer of Athens; sister-in-law, Rebecca Little “Becky” Snow of Athens; nephews, Ralph Mattox Snow III (Patti) of Charlotte, NC, and David Snow Dwyer (Sandy) of Athens; and niece, Patricia Snow Thurston (Bo) of Athens.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 20, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Athens, with Rev. Emily Harbin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church rotunda. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8107, Athens, GA 30603 or the National Kidney Foundation, 830 Glenwood Ave., Suite 510, Box 405, Atlanta, GA 30316.
