A native of Athens, GA Mrs. Cobb was the daughter of the late S. Hoyt Butler and Ruby Jones Butler. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Home Economics and member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was a charter Member of the Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary and a current member and past president of the Rose and Dahlia Garden Club. Gloria served as Azalea district Director and on the State Board of Directors from the Garden Club of Georgia. She was active in the Friends of the State Botanical Garden Club of Georgia and the consummate hostess who held many meetings at her home.
Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lanier A. (Skeet) Cobb. She is survived by her son, Lanier A. (Drew) Cobb Jr and wife, Julia Nathanson Cobb; daughter, Diane Cobb Dillard and husband, Anthony L. (Tony) Dillard; brother Sanford H. Butler and wife, Faye Butler, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family of Mrs. Cobb is eternally grateful for the exceptional care she received from her long time caregiver Yvonne (Juanita) Diaz, and additional caregivers Amber Turner, Alma Ayala and Sinthia Carreon and the support and guidance from Compassionate Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Athens First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul A. Baxley and Rev. Renee Dubose officiating. The family will receive friends at Bernstein Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening.
