He was born April 24, 1933, the son of Calvin and Elizabeth Hasbrouck. He grew up on Forshalle Plantation in South Georgia. He was an Eagle Boy Scout. He graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Music Education. He taught for two years in the Army Dependents School System in Berlin, Germany.
After returning to Florida, he earned an advanced degree in trumpet performance. In 1964, he received a John Hay Fellowship for a year of study at Columbia University in New York City. After two years in the public school system he was recruited by the University of Georgia in 1967. After one year in the Music Department he joined the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences. He was a founding member of the Georgia Brass Quintet.
In the fall of 1985 he was selected as a participant in the Smithsonian Institution’s Visiting Associates Program. He retired in 1993 as an Associate Dean.
After retirement he enjoyed travel and became a certified judge of competitive barbecue.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Clara Mabee Hasbrouck and his devoted caregiver, Debra Tal.
