She was a native of Athens, Georgia, and the daughter of the late Mabel Burton Daniel Bond and Ernest M. Daniel. She graduated from Athens High School in 1954 and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She retired from Auxiliary Services at the University of Georgia and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Roy “Buddy” L. Bowden Jr., her sister Joneita Yantes, daughter-in-law Cathy Bowden, and grandson Daniel Hawkins.
She is survived by four daughters; Elaine B. Bradberry (Bart), Dacula, Georgia; Susan B. Hawkins (Mick), Colbert, Georgia; Mary B. Gilmore (Dave), Pawleys Island, South Carolina; Nancy B. Garst (Steve), Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; one son, Roy L. Bowden III, Danielsville, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jennifer O’Hanlon (Nathan), Richard Bradberry (Brandi), Cassie Tieman (Robby), Blayne Garst, and nine great-grandchildren.
After the death of her husband, Betty moved to Dahlonega, Georgia and later to Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She was an avid reader, enjoyed her daily walks, and loved being with family.
A private service will be held March 16th.
