She was born in Limestone County Alabama on January 6, 1931, to William Henry and Reathea Vincent Laxson, and graduated from East Limestone High School before moving to Rome, GA, to train and work as a nurse. From 1953 until 1987, she lived in Chicago where she worked and retired from United Airlines. She then lived in Ft. Meyers, FL, (where she also volunteered at Lee Memorial Hospital for thirteen years) until 2003, when she moved back home to Athens to be near to her family.
The family will receive friends at McConnell Funeral Home on Thursday August 10th from 1-2pm. A memorial service will be in the chapel at 2pm, with Bro. Bill Irby officiating.
Mrs. Singer requested that in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Athens Limestone County Animal Shelter.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Singer (Gail); brother, Mahlon Laxson; sister, Linda Carter (Donald W.); grandchildren: Adam Singer, Caitiln Diehl and Elizabeth Peyton; great-grandchild, Rhett Diehl; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Norbert J. Singer; daughter, Candice Diaz; brothers: Melvin Laxson, Clifton “Shorty” Laxson, John Laxson, Marion Laxson and Joe Laxson; and sisters, Arlene Pressnell and Faye Cox.
