Nickless was born August 26, 1948 to Arthur Kirby and Bernice Elizabeth Ganger Kirby. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Charles Kirby and Dean Kirby, sisters, Clara, Melissia, Pauline, Ola Mae, Zola Kay and one son, Joseph “Rusty” Kirby.
Survivors include his loving wife, Kyong; one son, John Kirby (Olga); one daughter, Helen Angel Drake (Lee); two brothers, Midge Kirby (Pat) and Paul Kirby (Kay); five sisters, Connie, Dorothy, Jennivee (Larry), Annie Sue and Pearl Alieen; grandchildren, Reese and Austin Kirby, Reagan and John Drake and several other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nickless served his country in the U.S. Army, a veteran of both the Second Korean War and the Vietnam War, during which he was disabled and honorably discharged. He then worked at the U.S. Postal Service until retirement. Nickless could usually be found tinkering with a small engine, a project he was building or helping family or friends. He liked to spend time gardening or fishing. However, most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, August 26 from 11-1 followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at McConnell Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Gatlin Cemetery in Ardmore, AL.
