She was born in Limestone County and graduated from Athens High School in 1951, and was the first Homecoming Queen for the school in 1949. Once she graduated, she obtained her Master’s degree from A&M University, and spent her career teaching.
From 1964 until 1970 she taught science at Wossman High School in Monroe, LA., before moving back home to Tanner, AL. Beginning that fall, she began teaching at Tanner High School, where she later became the Assistant Principal for 10 years. Later, she was promoted to Principal, a position she held until she retired in 1990.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday April 8th at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Scurlock is survived by her son, Steve Scurlock (Verna); and grandson, Bradley Scurlock (Caroline).
Preceding her in death is her husband, William “Bill” Rudolph Scurlock; and her stepfather and mother, Charles “Rat” and Frances Stinnett.
