Jane was born on November 25, 1935 in Decatur, Illinois to Clinton Glen and Mary Margaret Purdue Giles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Glen Giles, and her husband of sixty years, Major HL Redding, USMC retired. She leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Cindy Main (Ron) of Lonaconing, Maryland and Melia Collier (Tim) of Athens, Alabama, grandsons Bryan Main (Emily) of Buford, Georgia and Michael Winter of Hoover, Alabama, granddaughters Amanda Moore of Athens, Alabama and Kylie O’Haver (Nathan) of Lonaconing, Maryland, great- grandsons Cary Moore, Brandon Main and Cash O’Haver, and great-granddaughters Audrey Main, Madison Moore, Ainslee Moore, Harper Winter, Everley Moore and Brookes Winter, sister-in-law Barbara Giles of Las Vegas, Nevada and a host of other extended family members. She will be especially missed by her caregivers, whom she lovingly referred to as her “angels”, Towanda Humphrey and Josea Humphrey.
Jane was a member of Copeland Presbyterian Church. She dedicated her life to her family and will be remembered fondly as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to being a homemaker, she was an accomplished seamstress and an exceptional cook. She taught her family many things (some of which we can’t repeat) but most of all she was an amazing example of selflessness, courageousness, strength and perseverance.
She married her sweetheart on January 6, 1952. During their sixty years of marriage, his military career took them to such places as Cuba, Japan, California, Indiana, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina before moving to Alabama in 1984. Her life was filled with love and laughter. Her keen wit and colorful vocabulary kept anyone in her company entertained. She had a special fondness for flamboyant headwear and her family encourages everyone to wear their finest hat or headpiece to her funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Copeland Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Limestone County.
