Melvin Sognesand of Coronach, SK passed away peacefully at age 80 on December 2, 2023 at the Coronach Health Centre.
Melvin was born on July 29, 1943, and raised on the family farm. He attended Mountain Cedar, High Crest and Clydesdale schools and finished his education at Coronach School.
In his early 20’s, Melvin started working for the Seismograph company, Garrity and Baker who were drilling near Big Beaver. From there he made his way to Calgary where he worked as a driller for Western Geophysical. After a while, he signed up to work in Saudi Arabia. He worked overseas for ten months before returning to the family farm. Melvin enjoyed playing cards, hunting, and visiting with family and friends.
Melvin was predeceased by his father, Daniel, his mother Myrtle (nee Wrolson), his brother Olaf (died in infancy) and his sister-in-law, Maureen (nee Card). He is survived by his brother John, two nieces: Rhonda and Cathy (Peter), and three nephews: Dean (Melaine), Andy (Sandra) and Mike (Geana).
Donations in memory of Melvin can be made to the Coronach Ladies Hospital Auxiliary for the Coronach Health Centre Long Term Care.
