It is with great sorrow and sadness that the family of George Etienne Drouin announce his passing on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Ross Payant Nursing of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
George was born on October 2, 1925 to Joseph Dominque (“JD”) and Germaine Drouin at Ste Rose Du Lac, Manitoba. At three years old, they moved to Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan.
George received most of his education in Willow Bunch, later he went to St Paul College in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
When World War II began, George enlisted but due to his eyesight was rejected, so he returned home and began driving a tanker owned by Albert Martin and delivered gas throughout Saskatchewan.
On September 7, 1948, George married the love of his life, Ruth Eleanor Reeves. They soon added to their family daughters Darlene, Jean, son Jay D and daughter Shelley.
George was a member of the Elks Lodge in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan and Masonic Lodge of Verwood, Saskatchewan.
George served on the Willow Bunch Credit Union Board for twenty years.
In 1967, he received his Private Pilot’s License and became a longtime member of the ‘Flying Farmers’.
George and his wife Ruth operated the Manoir Hotel for many years and in 1973, they sold it. George began selling Pioneer Life Insurance. In 1977, George began working for the local Co-op store. He thoroughly enjoyed his time there as he was once again in contact with the people.
George and Ruth loved to travel, taking their children from coast to coast in Canada and through many parts of the United States. After the children left home, they continued to travel all over with the motorhome and enjoyed going on bus tours. George continued travelling after Ruth passed away taking more bus tours.
In 2018, George moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and made his home at Caleb Village until May of 2020. He thoroughly enjoyed himself, he was playing bingo with the help of the ladies (which made his day) their daily coffee times afternoon and night. He also loved their dance nights; he sure could shake a leg then say, “I think I’m tired”.
When the Covid pandemic hit, George could not overcome the complete insolation so his children brought him to Assiniboia Hospital for a short period and later became a resident at Ross Payant Nursing Home.
