It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Gayle Young (Mellquist), long-time resident of Assiniboia, SK, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 69. Gayle is survived by her beloved son Darcy and grandson Austin, brothers Gord and Jeff, nieces Stacey and Shannon, nephew Ryan, and other family. She was predeceased by her parents Glen and Thelma, and sister-in-law Marlene.
Gayle was born in Moose Jaw on January 2, 1953 and lived most of her younger years in Assiniboia and Limerick. Gayle and Darcy lived on the Young farm in Parkbeg, moving back to Assiniboia in the early 80s when he was a baby. She worked at the Red and White store for Malcolm and Edna Fraser for many years until the store closed, becoming the best of friends with them over the years. Gayle then worked at the Bar-B for Fran and Leroy Dyck for about 15 years, where she was loved and respected by the Bar-B community and loved meeting up with her crew there for drinks and good times. She retired a few years ago, living in Assiniboia for the rest of her life.
Gayle was very proud of each and every member of her family, had a few very close, special friendships, and was proud to be a part of the Assiniboia community. She had the biggest heart for cats and her dog T-bone, who stole her heart forever many years ago -- he was one of a kind just like her.
