Fern Nelson passed away July 22, 2021 at age 89. Fern Elaine Nelson (nee Howlett) was born February 14, 1932 on the Knox farm in the Mazenod district, of Saskatchewan. She grew up in the area and attended school at Pansay, Coderre and Mossbank. Following her schooling, Fern worked for a number of farm families in the area. She later cared for her mother and father. Fern married Ernest Nelson April 15, 1965 in Regina and made their home in Ogema until she moved to Weyburn in 2018. Due to health reasons, Fern has resided in the Estevan Regional Nursing Home since October 2020.
Fern enjoyed travelling to visit family and friends all over western Canada taking and collecting photos during her many visits. She loved watching baseball and softball, as well as figure skating. Her favorite team was the Blue Jays. She liked baking and taking care of her yard. Fern loved social gatherings and community events, whether it was a wedding, graduation, or fair she always had a busy social life.
Predeceased by husband Ernest, parents William and Florence Howlett, nine siblings, and granddaughter Crystal Nelson, she is survived by two children: son, Raymond of Regina SK, and his children: James Barker, Destinie, Jessica, and Jayden Nelson; daughter, Betty of Bredenbury SK, her children: Aaron, Devin (Sichon), Courtney and Kyle (Kendra) Schad; great-grandchildren: Damian, Jaxson, Destiny, Isabella, Rhen, Mary-Anne, Marshall, Gwynevere. Fern is also survived by two brothers, Harry and Leslie Howlett, numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
A Family Graveside Service was held Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Ogema Cemetery, Ogema, SK. Anette Pryce facilitated sharing service written by Reverend Ella Frank who was unable to attend. Tributes were presented by the grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons Devin Schad and Kyle Schad, Edward Landry, Larry Johnson, Randy MacPhail, Kyron McKerricher.
