BROWN, James “Jim” Clarence, of Ashland, died on October 27, 2016, after 2 ½ years of illness, is now in heaven rejoicing with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, along with other family and friends who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He was born in Versailles, Ohio on October 19, 1940, to Alvin Eddy Brown and Mildred Lucille Beisner Brown. By the grace of God, he was born again on March 19, 1972. He is survived by his sweetheart, Anne Howard Cole Brown, to whom he was married for 50 blessed years. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan Powers Brown Anderson of Charlottesville, Virginia and husband, Edwin Borum “Ted” Anderson, Jr.; grandchildren, Ethan Cole Anderson, Jesse Wrenn Anderson, and Savannah Powers Anderson; son, Matthew August Brown of Wilmington, NC and wife, Christine Vaught Brown; two sisters in Versailles, Janet Lucille Brown Banks and husband, Fred, and Nancy Lee Brown Taylor and husband, Joe; and sister-in-law, Linda Oelke Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert William Brown, of Appleton, WS, and one sister, Betty Louise Brown Meyer and husband, Gene, of Versailles. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He graduated from Versailles High School and the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He attended the University of Virginia for a year and a half of graduate study in chemical engineering, where he met his wife, who was in summer school. His work career included 5 years with DuPont in Richmond, 7 years with Texaco Research in Richmond and Port Arthur, TX, and ended with 25 years with Reynolds Metals in Richmond. The last 30 years of his career as an Environmental Engineer, specializing in water pollution control. He was a Professional Engineer for 30 years and retired in 2002. Jim was a faithful member of West End Assembly of God Church in Richmond for 38 years (since 1978) and served as a Small Group Bible Study Leader, Sunday School Teacher and Helper, Vacation Bible School Worker and a member of several short-term mission projects. Besides family and church activities, he was interested in spectator sports, gardening, birds and walking in the woods. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005, where services will take place at 10am on Sunday, October 30, 2016. The burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, 11310 Hanover Ave., Ashland, VA 23005.
