Dorothy "Dot" Carr Buchanan

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Carr Buchanan, 86, of Ashland, Va., passed away on July 15, 2014. She was born November 15, 1927 in Audubon, New Jersey to Paul M. and Anna Carr. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Will E. Buchanan, Jr. and her loving son Will E. “Web” Buchanan, III. Dot moved to Ashland, Virginia when she was fourteen years old. She loved Ashland as it truly was her “center of the universe”. She was the school secretary at Henry Clay Elementary School for twenty years and will be remembered fondly as the warm and friendly smile that greeted so many upon entering the school. She was an active member of Independence Christian Church. Dot’s favorite thing in the world was to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and her many lifelong friends. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Craig Ross of Knoxville, TN; daughter-in-law, Carol Buchanan of Mechanicsville; grandsons, Matt Ross, Sam Ross, and Brock Buchanan and granddaughter, Casie Buchanan; and her loving nieces and nephew. The family will receive friends at the Nelsen Funeral Home - Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy, Ashland, Va on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 5-7pm. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 am at Independence Christian Church, Ashland, Va, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Independence Christian Church and the American Cancer Society.
