Obituary of Cynthia Worthington Fleet Van Riper
Cynthia Worthington Fleet Van Riper passed away peacefully December 3, 2022. She married Robert Van Riper in 1957, after both graduated from Richmond Professional Institute. Robert died in 2007. Cynthia received a master’s degree in art education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a post-graduate certificate from École des Beaux-Arts at Fontainebleau. She was trained as one of the nation’s first educational therapists by Deborah Zimmerman, co-founder of the former National Institute of Learning Disabilities. Cynthia gave many students the tools necessary to achieve their academic goals. She also authored the book "Brain Games for Learning Gains." Throughout her adult life Cynthia was known to be a fabulous hostess and a friend to all. She generously shared her joy and devotion and found the good in everyone, encouraging others to reach their potential. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution as well as a lifelong member of the Country Club of Virginia. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Lloyd (Steven) Hartung and Robert Demarest (Judi) Van Riper; six grandchildren, James (Megan), Diana and Robert Van Riper; Frank and Thomas (Kari) Brunetto, and Evelyn Hartung; and five great-grandchildren. Per Cynthia's wishes, she will be laid to rest privately by her husband in Fork Church Cemetery, Doswell, Va.
