Billy Wright Melton

Billy Wright Melton, age 88, of Richmond, Virginia passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. Billy was the youngest child of Anson G Melton and Lila Wright Melton. He was the husband of Catherine E. Melton, who predeceased him on April 25, 2022.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, A.G., Scott, Betty, and Marietta, and his great-grandson, Nathan.

Billy served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the war. He lived in the Ashland/Richmond area for 50 years and worked 30 years for Safeway. After retirement, he and his wife Catherine "Ernie", moved to Gaston, NC where he served as Town Commissioner, Tax Assessor, and also was elected Mayor, serving from 1997-2005. They later moved to Lake Gaston and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling. They had a second home in Texas for 25 years and enjoyed living retirement life there also.

Billy is survived by his sons, Ronald W. Melton (Eileen) and Steven R. Melton (Teresa). He is also survived by Joe Inge, Steve Inge, and Mary Catherine Ashworth and their families; his grandchildren, Patricia, Rebecca, Josh, and Kate; as well as Ashley, Jason, Tori, Hailey, Chad, Brandon; and 11 great-grandchildren; former wife, Neva Melton.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, VA 23005 where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Winns Baptist Church, 12320 Winns Church Rd., Glen Allen, VA 23059.
