Barry Lynn Ashbrook
6 August, 1954 – 31 January, 2023
IN THE CARE OF
Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory - Reid Chapel
Barry Ashbrook went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023. He was born on August 6th, 1954, to Carl and Gladys Ashbrook in Hopewell, Virginia.
Living an adventurous childhood, Barry would ride his bicycle all over Hopewell and spent many of his days playing baseball. While school was not his favorite, it was there where he met his sweetheart, Rosemary Nichols. During his teen years, Barry came to understand the love God had for him and began a lifelong walk in growing a relationship with Christ. On August 12, 1972, Barry married Rosemary and began a life of adventure together.
After graduating high school in the spring of 1972, he worked at the Hercules plant in Hopewell until the Lord called Him into full time ministry at Oak Grove Wesleyan Church in Montpelier, Virginia. He remained as the faithful and dedicated shepherd of Oak Grove for 37 years. His ministry went beyond the church into chaplaincy programs for the Hanover County Sheriff's Department and Marketplace Ministries. Barry touched many people's lives and was an incandescent light for Christ.
Barry’s memory and legacy will be carried on by Rosemary Ashbrook (wife), Ed Ashbrook (brother), Lee Ann Ashbrook (sister-in-law), Kim Kilmer (daughter), Ben Ashbrook (son), Brian Kilmer (son-in-law), Beth Ashbrook (daughter-in-law), Jared Kilmer (grandson), Jordyn Kilmer (granddaughter-in-law), and Gabby Ashbrook (granddaughter).
The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Oak Grove Wesleyan Church, 16360 Woodman Hall Rd., Montpelier, VA 23192. A funeral service will begin at 11am on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Oak Grove Wesleyan Church with interment to follow.
