John E. Sanders Jr.

John E. Sanders, Jr., 77 of Imperial passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2022 with his family by his side. John was born on September 20, 1944 in Compton, CA to the late John and Elizabeth (Elder) Sanders, Sr. He grew up in Poplar Bluff, MO and graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1962. Upon graduating, he moved to Arnold, MO and served in the US National Guard until 1970. John was united in marriage to Shirley Hill on August 16, 1969 and welcomed two children. John worked for Chrysler Automotive for 34 years until he retired in 1999. After retirement, John spent his free time traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. John loved watching sports and you could always find him at one of his grandchildren’s sporting events on any given day of the week.

He is survived by his wonderful wife of 52 years, Shirley, his son Jeff Sanders (Bridget Shannon, fiancé) of DeSoto, MO and daughter Stacey (Chad) Thier of Dubuque, IA.; four grandchildren. Tyler Smreker (Brittany Mills, fiancé), Kaden Sanders, Carlie Sanders and Malin Thier and one great-grandchild: Kash Smreker, Sisters: Betty (Don) Robertson and Evelyn (Larry) McCallister and many nieces, nephews and extended family. John was a loving father, husband and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Sanders and sister, Lois Oneda Schenewerk.

A funeral service is planned Monday, July 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd., Arnold, MO. Visitation from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial to follow at Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart, MO.
