She was born on February 20, 1938 to Ray and Frieda Burk in Casper, Wyoming. Judy and her family settled in Grandview, WA as a child. She graduated from Grandview High School in 1956. Judy worked at the Highway Café in Grandview as a waitress. It was there at just 16 years old she met 20 year old Sonny Grooms. She and Sonny were married for 67 years.
Judy was an excellent cook. She honed her skills cooking for large groups in the cafeterias of the Lynnwood School District (where her sons attended) and at the Harvey Airfield Restaurant. She owned and operated The Window Café in North Everett for over 25 years. Her café was known as a local favorite. Her Swedish pancakes (showcased in an Everett Herald article), Wall Burger and pies were legendary.
Judy is survived by her husband, Sonny, her sons, Tim (Teresa), Terry (Judy) and Tracy (Heidi). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Terry, Mari, Levi, Dalton, Taylor, Hailey, Brady and Jesse as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Bud and sister, Billie.
The family wishes to thank family friend, Sonja West and Hospice of the Northwest (and Nadine in particular) for their wisdom and compassion.
