Jonathan was born on December 5th, 1955 in Waltham, Massachusetts to Henry P. Whitaker and Helen S. Pokorsky. He graduated from Resselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked as an Engineer across New York and the Midwest for 19 years. He changed careers and became a small business owner with his beloved second wife, Kaydee A. Hines for 6 years. After Kaydee’s passing in 2007, he went back to school at the age of 54 to pursue his passion for airplanes. He received his diploma as an Aviation Maintenance Technician in 2010 from the National Aviation Academy of New England and worked for Boeing in Everett, Washington for the next 12 years.
Jonathan loved the outdoors. He enjoyed sailing, hiking, rock climbing, biking, and was a runner for his entire adult life, completing 3 full marathons after hip surgery in 2011. He also loved anything with an engine: cars, trucks, airplanes, and his latest passion, a John Deere tractor. Jonathan was known for being a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a loyal and caring friend, a thoughtful and considerate mentor to others, and a gentle soul who doted on his two life partners, Kaydee and Jean.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Henry P. Whitaker, his mother, Helen S. Pokorsky, and his second wife, Kaydee Hines. He is survived by his third spouse and companion of 15 years, Jean M. Williams, his brothers Robert H. Whitaker and Charles E. Whitaker, his two children Kathryn and Elizabeth, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
