Jason and his mother lived in Bothell until his father returned from Vietnam, at which point they moved to his childhood home in Monroe. There, he grew up with his younger brothers, Justin and Michael. He attended Monroe High School and then Stanwood High School, returning to Monroe High for his senior year.
At the age of 17, Jason enlisted in the U.S. Army. He took great pride in his service, attaining the rank of Sargeant. While in the military, he was stationed at Fort Knox & Fort Hood, Texas, and served as a tank gunner in Operation Desert Storm for one tour of duty during the First Gulf War. He was honorably discharged in 1991, having earned three Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, and various other achievements & training certifications.
Thank you for your service and dedication to our country, Jason.
After returning home, he attended Shoreline Community College. Following in his grandfather’s footsteps, Jason became a talented salesman. Whether it was rental equipment, steel, or those fundraising chocolate bars, Jason had a gift for sales. For the last twenty years, he sold underground utilities & plumbing with companies such as Ferguson.
In 1991, Jason met the love of his life, Jeni, through a family friend. They married in 1995 and built their home in Arlington, where they raised their children, Allison and Nolan. Jason loved nothing more than his family. He enjoyed taking them on camping trips across the Western United States and supporting his children's activities and interests.
A close second to his love for family was his dedication to his community, especially his fellow veterans. Jason served as the Sergeant-at-Arms of his local American Legion Post 76. During his tenure, he worked with the City of Arlington to coordinate the annual Memorial Day Remembrance and contributed to updating the Veterans Memorial.
He also served as a youth and high school football coach, inspiring and mentoring many players with his unmatched dedication and work ethic. Before and beyond coaching in his community, Jason spent countless years cheering on his cousins, nieces, and nephews from the stands.
In his free time, Jason could often be found fishing, out hunting with his beloved dogs, Shiloh and Shelby, or cheering on his favorite teams—the Mariners, the Huskies, and all of Pittsburgh's professional sports franchises. He was also known for his incredible in-home sports bar, where he loved to entertain friends and family alike, creating a space where laughter, camaraderie, and a shared love of sports brought people together.
Jason was preceded in death by his father, Ron; his hunting dog, Shiloh; and both sets of his grandparents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jenipher (Kringle); his children, Allison (Andrew Todd) and Nolan; his mother and stepfather, Sue and Bill Myers; his brothers, Justin (Kristin) and Michael Stansberry (Jami); as well as dozens of aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom loved him dearly.
There will be a short graveside service on Saturday, May 3rd, at 1pm at the City of Arlington Cemetery. A celebration of life is to follow at the American Legion Post 76 in Arlington. Please bring your favorite dish as the event will be potluck style
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Give A Hand fundraiser for his memorial & loss expenses or to a local veterans’ organization in his honor would be greatly appreciated.
