Virginia D. Clayborne, forever known as “Poppy” by those who knew and loved her, left this world to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the age of 77, in Fairfax, VA. Poppy was born in Washington D.C. on June 28, 1935. She lived in Arlington VA with her parents, Anthony and Frances Rudgers, and two brothers, Anthony and David. She graduated from W&L High School in 1953 and from the University of Virginia as a registered nurse in 1958. She worked at Arlington Hospital for much of her career.
She was married to her high school sweetheart, John Clayborne, for 50 years and they lived in Falls Church for the last 40 years. She is survived by John Clayborne and their children: Pamela Morgan, Sharon Clayborne, Allison Caple, John P. Clayborne, and 10 grandchildren: Austin, Trevor, Connor, Matthew, Ryan, Claire, Avery, Chloe, Evelyn and Autumn. She was predeceased by her daughter Jessica Clayborne.
Poppy lived a life of service to others, was a great prayer warrior, and MANY people were led to Jesus through her! Her spirit-filled life made an impact on people all over the world and her zest for life was instantly recognizable. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on July 17 from 5:30-8PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the same location on July 18, 2012 at 11 am. Burial will be at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington following the service.
