Vera L. Humphreys, 97, a long-time resident of Arlington, VA passed away on September 14, 2022, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Humphreys. She is survived by her loving family of three children, daughter Barbara King (Dennis), son Theodore K. Hiller III (Patricia), and daughter Cheryl Freeman (Michael); six grandchildren, Dana Papanicolas, Deborah Miller (Brad), Michael Papanicolas, Theodore K. Hiller IV (Elizabeth), Christine Conger (Darren), and Crystal Huggins (Eugene); and nine great-grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by her faithful friend, Lexie the cat, who now makes her new home with Ted and Patti.
Vera was raised in Virginia and Washington, DC. She worked primarily as a homemaker and caregiver and held other various roles in her earlier years. She had great enthusiasm for celebrations and birthdays with family and bringing everyone together. She loved all animals and looked forward each day to feeding birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that showed up to greet her with her companion Lexie by her side.
A memorial service honoring Vera’s life will be held at 10 am on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22203, followed by a graveside service at 1 pm at Columbia Gardens.
