Nan, dearest wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and retired kindergarten teacher adored by the students and parents of her beloved Cooper’s Koalas, died at her home in Arlington, VA on August 24, 2022 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
She was born June 20, 1946 in Greensboro, NC, grew up in Randleman and was educated at UNC-Greensboro, where she graduated with degrees in Sociology and International Studies, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa scholastic honor society, and earned her M.Ed at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; sons Larry (Christy) and Jim; grandsons Danny and PJ; brother Rusty (Alice); sister Martha (Bob); and nieces Nancy and Mary. She was blessed to have the love and support of her family and many friends, neighbors and her church. She lived a wonderfully fulfilled life and was beloved by everyone who knew her.
A memorial service for Nan will be held at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 1500 N. Glebe Road Arlington, VA at 11am on September 10th, 2022. Inurnment will be family-only after the service in the church’s columbarium. There will be a reception immediately thereafter in the Gathering Space next to the sanctuary.
