Maxine Ferald Dingle-Fisher was born January 8, 1929 and was the third child of Charles “Pop” and Melvina Dingle “Mama D”. Her life was filled with childhood memories with her older sister Barbara Dingle Hawkins, and her older brother Charles Dingle, and her baby brother Sheldon Dingle.
Maxine attended Central Commercial high school in New York City, and furthered her studies in Business Administration at New York City College. She was a full pledge member at Mother AME Zion Church in New York City, New York and became a member of Allen AME Church in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
In her early years, Maxine displayed a passion for music as she played the piano, loved to dance and became a majorette. She joined and led the Colonel Charles Young Drum and Burgle Corp- Veterans of World War I for over ten years.
Her mother, “Mama D” taught Maxine the importance of service and to always give of herself. Her career that spanned 35-years, 28 of those years was spent as a social service employee with the New York City Department of Social Services – Medical Division. Her talents were recognized with awards for her service. Maxine was a member of the NAACP’s St. Albans, New York chapter until she retired in 1990. She was committed to not be complacent and to live life to the fullest; she relocated to Reston, VA to be closer to family. Maxine’s passion for travel formed an adventure along with her friends to the Panama Canal, South America, the Caribbean; she even cruised through the mountains of Alaska until sickness slowed her down. Nevertheless, she still remained close to her grade school friends, regardless of their location. Pillar within her community, Maxine was a proud member of the Reston Association, and served as one of the treasurers of St. Luke A.M.E. Church.
Through her illness she gave God all the glory and took comfort in knowing that she would be called to be with her Savior. She is mourned by her two daughters Dorran and Karen, a son-in-law Charles, her granddaughter Danielle and grandson-in-law Josh. Five nieces and nephews- Cheryl Hawkins, Sheldon Dingle Jr., Adrienne Ford, Mark Dingle and Joy Dingle. Eight grand nieces and nephews Darwin, Colin, Emma, Caryn, Allegra, Maya, Chaney and Tori, and with a host of loving relatives and friends who were touched by her love.
