On February 3rd, Mary Regina French passed away peacefully at Providence Place in Chambersburg, PA. Before moving there, Mary had made her home in Arlington, VA for almost 60 years, and she was a long time communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Her death followed a recent heart attack and chronic heart failure. She was 98 years old.
Raised in Missouri, Mary moved to Arlington during World War II and was employed as a “government girl” in Washington DC. She remained in this area where she developed many friendships and forged a successful career with the United States government.
She is survived by three devoted cousins: Tessiana Cunningham and Sister Irene Callahan, RSM, both of whom reside in Baltimore, MD; and Justin Callahan who lives in northern Virginia. Other survivors include her cousins’ many children and grandchildren, other distant relatives, and many faithful friends.
Friends may visit on Monday, February 9 from 2 to 4 o’clock, and from 6 to 8 o’clock at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd in Arlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3304 Washington Blvd in Arlington, at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 10. A memorial Mass celebrating Mary’s life will be offered at Corpus Christi Church in Chambersburg, date and time to be announced.
