Murphy Funeral Homes

LaVonne Marie Mangan (neé Grabiak), age 69, passed away unexpectedly in her home on June 29th, 2023. Originally from Parma, Ohio - LaVonne called Arlington home for well over 40 years. LaVonne is survived by her husband of 41 years, George Mangan and her son Michael (Rae DeBrabander) along with her beloved sister Nancy Grabiak of Michigan. LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Leona. Born on May 23, 1954 to her parents Chester and Leona Grabiak (née Long), LaVonne grew up in Ohio and received her Bachelor’s of Science from The Ohio State University. She cherished her work in various positions at the Congressional Research Service, ultimately retiring as a research librarian. There she met her loving husband George, a fellow Research Librarian. LaVonne worked for CRS until her retirement in 2020, and her former coworkers will remember her fondly. LaVonne was an avid crafter who could always be found at the dining room table putting together her next puzzle or on the couch working on her knitting. Whether it was pursuing Rowan magazine for her next project idea or tuning in to her weekly webinar with other needleworkers, LaVonne could always be found with yarn in her hands. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all those who were lucky enough to get to know her compassionate heart. A memorial service for close family and friends will be held on July 15th, 2023 from 2pm to 4pm at Murphy Funeral Homes located at 4510 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington VA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Arlington Food Assistance Center in LaVonne’s name. You can donate at the link below.
