John Odgers Miner, Jr. (“Jay”) passed away peacefully on February 24, 2018 in McLean, Virginia. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 7, 1942. Jay was married in 2000 to Harriet Krug Miner who passed away less than a month after Jay’s death.
After graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Jay continued his studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where he received a Masters in Operations Research, Systems Analysis. He served in the United States Navy from 1964-1984 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Following his service in Vietnam, Jay was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor in 1969. After he left the Navy, Jay worked in BBN Technologies as a senior manager and federal contractor, and later he was employed at Temeku Technologies.
Jay is survived by his sister Juliet (Carl Michael) Mayer of Amelia Island, FL and his niece Amy Ivey of Fairfax, VA and his nephew Michael J. Mayer of Redondo Beach, CA.
Jay will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on August 21, 2018.
