Joan Schmidt Carr

Joan Schmidt Carr was born August 5, 1928, in New York City and passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022, in Ashburn, Virginia. Joan Schmidt Carr is preceded in death by her parents, John Schmidt and Amelia Monjiefski Schmidt and her older brother, Donald J. Schmidt.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Lewis Wesley Carr, Sr.; five children, John C. Carr (Cathy), Del J. Carr (Karen), Patricia Carr Amstutz (Bob), Lewis W. Carr, Jr. (Jackie), and Eileen Carr Currin (David); seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

As a child, following a tonsillectomy and the tender care of a nurse, Joan aspired to be a nurse and over time to be an educator and to marry and have a family. Joan realized these aspirations beginning with her graduation in 1949 from the Cornell University School of Nursing, marriage in 1952, a master’s degree from Catholic University in 1976, and an educator in several schools of nursing. A life well lived.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, Virginia 20147, on November 5th at 1:00 p.m.
