Antoinette Hudson Mullen died peacefully in her home in Laguna Woods, California on April 22, 2024. She was an amazing 111 years old. Born in Washington DC on April 12, 1913 to Jeremiah and Mary Connor, she was one of eight children. Antoinette graduated from Notre Dame Academy. She married Joseph Hudson of Washington DC on July 8, 1939, and lived in Arlington until Joseph enlisted in the Army in response to World War II. When he returned from Europe in 1945, they again settled in Arlington, attending St. Thomas More Catholic Church. There they subsequently had two sons, Timothy, now residing in Kailua, Hawaii, and Michael, now residing in Earlysville, Virginia. After the death of her first husband in 1968, she met and in 1976 married Dewitt Mullen also from Washington DC. Dewitt died in 1977. She prioritized education for her sons, and in 1973, when both had graduated from college, she retired and spent several years traveling both domestically and internationally. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Institute for Defense Analysis in Arlington Virginia. In 1989 she moved to California so she could be closer to her grandchildren. She kept an active life while in California and worked with several charitable organizations including the Catholic Church donating her time and energy to helping others. She also enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, making Christmas ornaments, and generally anything requiring manual dexterity. She is survived by her sons, Timothy Hudson and Michael Hudson (Gail); grandchildren, Melissa Ritter (Justin) of Charlottesville, VA; Mathew Hudson of Washington, D.C, and Shannon Lindstrom (Bret) of Dana Point, CA; and great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Sophia Ritter, and Briggs Lindstrom. She is also survived by stepdaughter, Susan Fleming (Norman) of Mary Esther, FL. There will be a funeral Mass celebrating Antoinette’s life at 10 am on Friday, May 24th at St. Ann’s Catholic Church at 5300 10th Street N., Arlington, VA.
