The fifth child of William Palmer Sowell I, and Mary Ruth McBrayer Sowell, Bill was born on July 20, 1959, in Japan.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife Kay Kurtzeborn, his children Ashley Lesslie (Will), Trey Sowell, Jacob Kurtzeborn-Sowell, and Olivia Kurtzeborn-Sowell, his grandchildren Wells, Emma, & Ella Lesslie, his granddog Fred, and his siblings Gene Sowell (Jodi), Trudy Robinson (Charles), and Barbara Burbalak (Michael). He is preceded in death by his loving parents and sister Pat Welch (Bud).
Bill was a lifelong entrepreneur who was fortunate to love his work in the packaging industry. He led an inspiring career working alongside his wife and closest friends. Known affectionately as Bill, Billy, Crazy Old Man, Wild Bill, and “The King” (of packaging), he spent life loving well his family, friends, colleagues, employees, and anyone who needed him.
His dearest friend notes that, “Pages could be filled with the generous things Bill has done for other people. You never knew what was going to show up in the mail or on a truck from him. He never did a thing because he had to. He did things because he genuinely wanted to.”
His smile, generous spirit, love of golf, cargo shorts, Ford trucks, Mountain Dew, TCU, movie quotes, softball, and pie will always bring us joy. A family friend says, “Bill surrounded himself with so many good people that have good hearts.” His family and friends will honor his legacy by doing the same and gather at a later date for a special celebration of Bill’s life.
