Terry Dorsey was born on September 27, 1948, to the late Lee and Larene (Backscheider) Dorsey in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati in 1966 and learned how to be a broadcaster in New York City, before he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Terry, a combat engineer whose job was to clear land mines, was later instrumental in establishing the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Fair Park. He married Claudia Eggers on February 14, 1996, in Arlington, Texas.
Terry was an award winning radio personality for 46 years. He began spinning country records in 1977 after landing a gig in Dayton, Ohio. He moved to Dallas in 1981 and worked for KPLX-FM (99.5) before moving to KSCS in 1988, where he hosted the KSCS #1 morning show for 26 years before retiring in December of 2014. When he retired, Dorsey was among the most beloved and honored radio voices in Dallas-Fort Worth. He collected every major award his industry had to offer, including Billboard’s Local Air Personality of the Year. He was inducted into the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame and Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
On March 7, 2015, Terry passed away at the age of 66 in Princeville, Illinois. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Claudia; children: Dan Dorsey, Adam Dorsey, Tiffany Lance and husband, Matt, Libby Dorsey, Chrissey Piatt and husband, Mike, Randy Schroer and fiancée, Tammie Hewitt, and Jamie Schroer and wife, Amy; ten grandchildren: Jesse, Payton, Colby, Dalton, Kylee, Taylor, Addison, Quinn, Hayden and Maddox; and numerous other friends and family members.
