Sylvia was born on September 5, 1933 as the first of four children to loving parents Edgar and Aletha Eastham in Kansas City, Kansas. Her family would later move to Oak Park, Illinois, where she was very active in school, church and work. On June 14, 1952, at the age of 18, Sylvia married a young man named Robert Carl Palmer. They lived in many locations, but would finally settle and raise their son and two daughters in Bellwood, IL. Sylvia had many different jobs while living in Illinois including being a telephone operator, working for Alberta Culver and then at White Castle. In 1989 Sylvia and her family moved to Texas; putting down new roots in the small town of Hickory Creek. Sylvia, her husband and their son opened a video store and tanning salon in nearby Lake Dallas, where many customers loved to come visit and gossip with her. After her husband’s death in 2004, Sylvia sold their store and moved to Red Oak, TX to live with her daughter’s family. There she spent the rest of her years enjoying family, friends and her retirement.
Sylvia will always be remembered for her fun-loving personality and never being afraid to laugh or be the center of attention. She loved trying new recipes or new restaurants and just food in general. But most of all she loved her family; whether it was eating together, watching QVC, stopping for ice cream, being teased by her grandkids or spending the afternoon chatting on the phone with her brothers and sister. She loved us and we loved her.
Left behind to cherish Sylvia’s memory are her son Robert Carl Palmer Jr. of Plano, TX, daughter Sally Marie Johansen and her husband Dale of Garland, TX, daughter Susan Marie Baugh and her husband Troy of Red Oak, TX, sister Mary Deckert and her husband Dwayne of Elmhurst, IL, brother Richard Eastham and his wife Sandra of North Aurora, IL, grandchildren Samantha Johansen, Christopher Baugh and his wife Cassy, Kelly Baugh, Kevin Baugh, Kimberly Price and her husband Matthew and great grandchildren Kaleb and Tyler Baugh. Her parents Edgar and Aletha Eastham, her husband Robert Palmer and her brother Lawrence Joseph Eastham preceded her in death.
