Roy was a good man and Police Officer. I worked side by side with Roy in the CAPERS unit and we could always depend on him to keep us safe.    He enjoyed catching the "bad guys".  There were many stressful moments but his calming demeanor and humor helped defuse the tension. I'm proud to call him a brother in Blue. Mr. Roy was always so kind and friendly when he visited at Ms. Lisa’s house. One day I was feeling sad and started to cry as I told Ms Lisa and Ms Judy something, Mr Roy came over to me and put his hand on my shoulder and smiled at me. I will always remember how that made me feel and how nice I thought he was for treating me like a part of their family.

Roy was a consummate gentleman and officer who lived his faith and performed his job with honor and dignity for all  with whom he came into contact. It was a privilege to know him and to work with him. He will be missed greatly. Blessings on your family. 

Knowing Roy was an honor and pleasure.  He served his country and the citizen's of our community with dedication.  He always took care of his family and friends.  He always watched out for others, and taught me many things.  You will certainly be missed, rest in peace my friend.

Roy was a good man and a good officer.  He was always the same from the time I met him until the last day I saw him.  He was steady, caring and loved his work and his family.  He was a good Christian man who walked the walk.

My 1st recollection of Roy was shortly after he hired on around 1979? I'd been with APD since 1977, & he came onto my shift just before I transferred to motors. He & I hit off on the first few calls we worked together. He threw caution my way about Motors in that he was a motorjock for DFW Public Safety & had quite a severe accident by his description, but stressed that he loved his time on that duty & wished me well. Roy's , "Ways" spoke of a guy who definitely danced to his own tune, & once in awhile, I'd climb over or sneak around his, "Wall", & get in a one-liner that would make him chuckle...not an easy thing to do, but he was always gracious with me, always professional in the manner he carried himself, & good company once he got too know & trust you. I feel for his wife Judy-always a joy to be around,  kids-Jesse-with whom I played softball with, & his dear daughter Lisa, who babysat my daughter way back when. I transferred to the THP in Tarrant County in 1973, Roy was my partner, no one better. Always there when you needed a backup. He resigned and went to DFW ( Airport Police).

I worked with Roy for a number of years at Arlington PD and will always remember him with fondness--He was a combat veteran who was a public servant for over 50 years--No one can ask more of a person than that--May you rest in peace, my friend--Mike Heidingsfield 

I have several great memories of visiting with Roy (and Judy, too) at Dayspring Church.  However, I want to share a funny memory of Roy at the Fourth of July parade.  I was waiting for the parade to start next to my son's scout float. We were getting ready to ride in the parade and Roy came up behind me. He pretended like he was going to arrest me.  All the folks around us thought it was real and backed away. It was hilarious!  He had a wonderful sense of humor. 

I will not say good bye, but see you later. Our history of friendship goes back over 50+ years, and I know it will last into eternity.
Thank you for being my husband's best friend, for the memories y’all had of the many times you took him on patrol with you. One of my favorites was when Troy talked about the time the two of you were chasing someone on foot, you slipped and rolled head over heels down a hill and all Troy heard was the sound of your laughter until you came to a stop at the bottom. Troy said his favorite times  were getting into a chase. As soon as y’all caught someone he would tell you to turn them over to someone so you could go again.
Thank you for being “uncle” to our kids. You filled in so graciously for the twin brother he lost at birth and it may not have been by blood but you were a true uncle in every other way. 
I am so happy for the heavenly peace and love you are expecting now. We will join you soon. 

I worked many years with Roy at PD and the ballpark. I would describe him as a steady hand. A humble leader. And ready for any challenge. I know he was a man of strong faith. It was a pleasure to work for him. Rest In Peace! Ron Furman 691

Dad, 
I want to say thank you for so many things. Thank you for being the Godly man who provided for,  protected, served and cared so deeply for his family and friends.
Thank you for instilling  the values of how to treat people, love and care for a wife, children and grandchildren.  The value of a hard days work and the secret rewards of helping a stranger. You taught me a man’s word was still his most important asset, and that the Golden Rule needs to be applied on a daily basis. 
I’ll never forget your 2 most used phrases: “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar” and “don’t sweat the petty things, and you won’t end up petting sweaty things”. 
You never seemed to see things as a problem, but rather a “solution waiting for an opportunity”.
Dad, you have made a positive impression on people coast to coast, but more importantly the love you shared with us, your grandchildren and great grandchildren- they all thought you walked on water. 
Your profession as a police officer was noble and honorable, and your ability to take off your uniform each day and transform instantly to a family man is incomprehensible, yet you did it with ease. 
As you enjoy your new home in Heaven, please know that we will always celebrate the life you had, and all that you gave.  I will forever be grateful.

When I met Cari she was living with Judy and Roy while going to UTA. When I picked her up for our first date, Roy met me at the door with a shotgun. :) He thought that was the funniest thing. I loved getting to know him while Cari and I dated, and we will miss him dearly. 

I had the privilege of working with Roy upon his assignment to APD East District Patrol as a reserve/part-time officer. We immediately developed a bond (I was 52 and he was 70), and our similar personalities helped that bond solidify quickly. Roy was confident, composed and compassionate, and I saw a lot of myself in Roy. 

Roy was a Vietnam Veteran and he often shared some of those memories with me. Being an Army Infantry veteran who was born the year the war began, and 10 when it ended, I really enjoyed hearing Roy’s experiences from the Viet Cong to jungle combat, and Agent Orange. 

Roy shared some of the health concerns he had at 70 with me, and the fact that he worked as long as he did demonstrated how much of a “trooper” he really was. He LOVED being an officer and it really showed in everything he said and did. I was sad when he retired from patrol, but I knew it was the best decision for him, and that’s all that mattered. 

Needless to say, I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing, but take solace knowing he’s with God now. You are greatly missed Roy, and I look forward to seeing you again someday. Prayers to your loved ones.

To Roy, thy good and faithful servant! You have served the Law Enforcement Community with honor and distinction. I will not began to count the years of service that you committed to your life and family. When I met you, you were not a man of laughter, but after we got to know each other, the smiles can easily. Thank you for your service and commitment to this profession that you and I always talked about,fair and equitable treatment to all! Our oath reminds us daily that we protect and serve all people, regardless of race, creed or color! Roy Mitchell is 10-7.

I had the privilege of working with Roy many times in our careers with APD.  I think the highest praise I can give, and the comment that would please him the most, was that whatever his rank or assignment he was a policeman first and foremost.  Some supervisors became bureaucrats, but that never happened to Roy.  We have lost a good man and a great officer.

This picture was taken in Galveston TX . I was 6 years old in 1980. I miss the innocent times  of childhood when all you did was simply love the safe people in your life. My favorite memories, like most children, was Christmas. It wasn’t Christmas Day that was the most special to me, it was Christmas Eve. During my entire childhood and early adult years, every Christmas Eve was spent with the Mitchell Family. I treasure those memories. I’m grateful for those memories. I was in my late teens when I realized we weren’t related by blood. It didn’t make a difference to me. In my heart we were family. Thank you Roy for being my best Bonus Uncle. Thank you for loving me.  I have always loved you. I will never stop loving you. ~ Missy

President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." A man of few words but stock full of morals and character he served his country and his community and his church his entire life. And, like everyone who knew him, I respected Roy as much as anyone I have ever known. He will be missed. Say hello to my Dad for me, please Sir.
