M. Lillian Meriwether, age 97 of Arlington, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2020. She was born on June 11, 1923 in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of Robert O. Higginbotham and Dovie Geddie Higginbotham. Lillian married Nat Meriwether and they celebrated 29 years of marriage together before his passing.
Lillian retired from the Irving Independent School District after working many years as a nurse’s aide. In her spare time, Lillian enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing cards, ceramics, and sewing. She had a love for football and always followed the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M. Lillian was a member of the First Baptist Church of Irving, where she volunteered at the church, but also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Her greatest time was that spent with her family.
Lillian is survived by her son David Meriwether; daughter Peggy Kompelien and husband Wayne; grandchildren Steven Meriwether and wife Julia, Carol Ann Terry and husband Shawn, Julie Gavigan, Nat Kompelien and wife Leslie; eight great grandchildren; brother Vernon Higginbotham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband Nat Meriwether, five sisters, and five brothers.
