Kenneth Mark Davis was born April 1, 1948. He was the beloved son of Kenneth and Edith Davis. He spent his early childhood in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Howard University in 1971 with a B.A. majoring in Economics and Business Management. Ken then graduated from Columbia University in New York in 1975 with an M.B.A. majoring in Marketing.
Ken joined American Airlines, Inc in 1978 and attained the position of Captain with qualifications on Boeing 727, McDonnell-Douglas DC-10, and Boeing 757, 767 and 777 . He also served as an International Wide-Body Captain with direct responsibility for the safe management and operation of Wide-Body passenger aircraft in world-wide operation. Ken's previous employment included a position with Pepsi-Cola Corp where he was the District Manager who oversaw the management of 14 Pepsi-Cola bottlers in a 5 state territory.
From 1976 - 1982, Ken was employed by the District of Columbia Air National Guard where he was a Tactical Fighter Pilot with qualifications in the Republic F-105 Thunderchief and McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom. He attained the rank of Captain. From 1973 - 1976 he was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he was a pilot with extended active duty with global assignments.
Ken was an avid golfer, automobile enthusiast, and enjoyed international travel and gardening. He loved his sons and Kenneth II and Kyle.
He had many ‘firsts' as an African American - an achievement of which he was very proud. Ken was affiliated with many professional organizations including the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, O.B.A.P. (Organization of Black Airlines Pilots), and the Arnold Air Society.
Ken was recognized in 1992 by “Being Single Magazine” for career excellence and accomplishments; Declaration of the Senate in the State of Texas in 1991 for community service; featured by the Fort Worth Star - Telegram in 1991 during Black History Month and recognized by American Airlines for merit and commitment in minority recruitment and community service.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Vernon Davis and Edith Lena Oliver.
Kenneth leaves to mourn his beloved sons, Kenneth Davis II, Kyle Davis; brother, Charles Gaylord, sister-in-law, Linda Gaylord; and many dear friends.
