Keith was born February 27, 1936, to Walter Hamilton Harris and Ingri Matthews in Hurricane, Utah. He was descended from strong pioneer stock. His maternal ancestors were among the first to settle southwestern Utah and he could trace his ancestry back to the Mayflower.
His parents divorced when he was three and his mother later remarried. George Haslam accepted Keith as his own and the family settled into a home that George constructed of railroad ties in Cedar City, Utah.
As a young man, Keith contemplated working for the park service in one of the beautiful National Parks in the area. Ultimately though, he heeded the call to serve his country. In 1952 he decided to follow his cousins into the military, opting for the United States Air Force.
It was not too long before Keith found himself stationed in San Antonio, Texas. It was there that he met and married a nursing school student Bobbie Frances Moore.
Together the young couple started a family and thanks to the USAF lived around the globe in places such as Casablanca, Morocco and Berlin, Germany. There were times however when Keith’s duty took him away from his family. He was once assigned to a station in a remote region of Alaska and twice deployed to Southeast Asia. Despite the challenges of being apart, Keith and Bobbie remained together until her death in 2000.
Keith was an avid collector of clocks and watches, acquiring timepieces in his travels. In addition he curated an impressive library of country music. Even at 87 he could recall the performer of each song and recount when and where he had seen them in concert.
Keith never met a stranger and would always remember your name and where you were from. Keith was predeceased by his wife of forty-five years, Bobbie. He is survived by a sister Merna Wood, his children Keith R. Harris II, Gary L. Harris and Susan Reed; along with seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
