Jeanette was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas August 23, 1939. She graduated from Sulphur Springs High School with honors and completed a BS in Education from University of Texas A&M, Commerce. While attending college and for a year following graduation, she worked as a secretary at First Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs. She began teaching fifth grade in Corsicana, Texas, and there she met Spencer Olesen and they were married in 1965. They moved to Grand Prairie, Texas where she taught for 30 years in Grand Prairie ISD getting awards for her teaching expertise. She and Spencer had two children, Anne Turner and Brad Olesen. She followed them to every soccer game, dance recital, baseball game, band performance, drill team performance and piano recital.
During those years she managed to be a wonderful wife for Spencer. Together, they were inseparable – until you saw or tasted her cooking. Then, you knew who the real star in the show was. If you knew Jeanette, you knew her desserts – particularly her meringue pies – were works of art.
At church, she loved singing and speaking in the special programs at First Baptist Church of Arlington and Grand Prairie. She was the secretary of The Master Singers at FBC-Arlington, and rarely missed a practice or performance. Anyone she met will remember her for her nurturing spirit. Whether it was mission trips with the youth groups or her active involvement in tours with The Master Singers, she gave her life to making everyone smile and be attentive to making the world a brighter place.
She is survived by her husband, Spencer of 54 years, two children – Dr. Brad Olesen of Lewiston, Maine, and Anne Turner and Dr. Scott Turner of Denison, Texas and their four children – Jack, Sydney, Hayden and Kate Turner – who will miss her creative gifting, wonderful hugs and chocolate pies/chocolate chip cookies. She was preceded in death by her parents - Jasper and Gladys Mills, sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Lowell McKinley, and her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Clara Mills.
Visitation with family (and desserts) will be held at First Baptist Church of Arlington at 1 p.m. Immediately following will be a Celebration of Life memorial service at 2 p.m.
Memorials in her honor would be welcomed to Kids Inc. of Grand Prairie or The Master Singers of FBC-Arlington
