Skip was born on May 12, 1939, to Galveston and Josephine Haygood in Charlotte, NC.
After graduation from Second Ward High School in 1957, he joined the New York Giants minor league team. He also, joined the Marine Corp Reserves in 1957 and later entered active duty in 1959. Shortly after separating from the Marine Corp in 1965, he began working for General Motors for 25 years. In 1965, he met Judith A. Fields, and they wed in 1966. Together they raised two children, Angelo Todd and Pamela Nicole.
Skip was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. As a proud grandfather he actively participating in the activities of his grandchildren as often as possible. He was unendingly proud of his family and always tried his best to support them.
Anyone who knew Skip knew that he was one of the most trustworthy, supportive, and dependable friend a person could want. Skip was also a passionate and competitive card player. Often, he could be found on Saturday evenings participating and many times winning local poker tournaments.
Skip was predeceased by both his father, mother, and his younger sister Dorothy Hunter. He is survived by his wife (Judith), children (Angelo and Pamela), grandchildren (Austin and Tyler Haygood and Sanai, Cameron, and Alexander Arnold), as well as his sisters (Grace Belcher and Virginia Haygood), his brother Fred Haygood, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service for Galveston will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012. Following the memorial service will be a committal service from 2:15 PM to 3:00 PM at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
